When temperatures are low in winter, diesel engine cylinder heads are prone to cracks and leaks. The main reasons are as follows:
1. Add cooling water after starting. After the diesel engine is started, the temperature inside the engine will rise immediately. If cooling water is added at this time, the cylinder block and cylinder head will cool down rapidly, which will cause cracks due to cold shrinkage.
2. After shutdown, cooling water was not discharged. The water in the machine freezes into ice, increases in volume, and causes the cylinder block and cylinder head to swell and crack.
3. When the diesel engine is running, the cooling water is insufficient or the water tank boiler temperature is too high, and cooling water is suddenly added. Supercooling and shrinkage of the cylinder block and cylinder head can also cause cracks.
4. When the diesel engine runs for a long time, the temperature inside the engine will be high. Discharge the high-temperature water immediately after stopping. It will cause high-temperature parts to crack when they suddenly encounter cold air.
5. Use the pressure reducer to stop the machine, causing the high-temperature cylinder head to suddenly encounter cold air and cause cracking.
There are the following methods to prevent cracking of various types of cylinder blocks and cylinder heads:
1. Before starting the diesel engine, warm water should be added to the water tank. In severe winter, hot water should be filled 2 to 3 times. It is best to start the diesel engine when the water flowing out of the drain valve is about 30 to 50 degrees Celsius.
2. When the diesel engine runs for a long time, you should wait for about half an hour after shutting down. When the engine temperature drops to 40~50℃, then drain the cooling water. After draining the water, it is best to use a thin wire to pierce the drain valve switch to prevent sediment from clogging the drain valve.
3. When the diesel engine is overheated and severely short of water, the diesel engine should be allowed to idle at low speed for 10 to 15 minutes, and then slowly add cooling water.
